These pieces were created in the time leading up to or during my time spent in Uganda as a visiting and teaching artist, first in 2012 and then in 2014.
The sea creatures and the snail were done for fun, inspired by my deep love for the ocean and garden critters.
The purse and glasses case were sample items for my classes. The women in my classes were learning how to make items they could sell at market to help support themselves and become independent heads of household. They also learned the knitting machine and color theory. The project is still up and running, although under a different name, and their main focus is now on quilting and knitting.
